Writing Jobs

To give you an idea of how competitive the writing field is check out this link to Elance.com. As you can see there are multiple responders to every job posted and they often choose whomever will work the cheapest, and a lot of desperate writers will work way below making a living. Another post I was looking at clearly said they wanted people that will work for less than $10 an hour. Might as well be working at Wal-Mart instead of doing an intellectually demanding job. No offense to those that work at Wal-Mart, just that a lot of people that are writers went to college to get an English degree (and/or have worked their tails off gaining writing creditials through writing and marketing themselves) to then find themselves earning the wage of a high school worker.

In a year when I get my English degree...that will probably be me...

Oh I hope not...

But I never got into English for the writing. My focus is in Literature because I love the ideas. Sure I've learned how to analyze, express myself, and give presentations...so I'll have to market that instead of my extreme love for Jane Austen. Unless of course I end up working for the company that makes action figures out of literary figures...

oh that would be cool...
